Alabama unemployment figures have generally improved over the six month period between March 2010 and August 2010. The improvement in AL unemployment rates, from the AL unemployment rate of eleven percent in March and April to an unemployment rate of 9.2 percent in August 2010. These improved AL unemployment figures have developed alongside the fact that the Civilian Labor Force has grown by nearly 50,000 jobs, from 2,065,000 jobs to 2,102,000 jobs.

There are 11 major areas across which AL unemployment figures are compiled; of these 11 job areas, AL unemployment as risen in four of these areas. AL unemployment has remained at their same levels in one area. The decline in the AL unemployment across the state has owed its improvement to the increased number of jobs that have been produced in the remaining six areas.

Information on AL unemployment rates and AL unemployment data is compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which is a division of the United States Department of Labor.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, in addition to publishing data about the state as a whole involves the publication of AL unemployment data for 11 metropolitan areas. These eleven metropolitan areas are Anniston-Oxford, Auburn-Opelika, Birminham-Hoover, Decatur, Dothan, Florence-Muscle Shoals, Dadsden, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa.
