Ohio Unemployment Office

Unlike a state unemployment office in many other parts of the United States of America, an Ohio Unemployment Office is connected to the offices that provide family services since the Ohio Unemployment Office is operated under the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

In order to help alleviate the pain and difficulties experienced by families who are attempting to make mortgage payments after being subjected to an income reduction or losing their jobs, a federal initiative has provided the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services with the opportunity to allow the state unemployment office to distribute some of the more than $320 million to individuals who are in need of assistance from the Ohio unemployment office.

Governor Ted Strickland developed the plan to distribute federal funds in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Commerce, the Ohio Finance Agency, and partners in the Save the Dream Ohio partners.

The four programs developed for distribution through the Ohio Unemployment Office were the Rescue Payment Assistance Program, the Partial Mortgage Payment Assistance Program, the Modification Assistance with Principal Reduction Program, and Transition Assistance. Although these programs are not directly administered by the Ohio Unemployment office, these programs can be distributed through the state unemployment office.
