Who Is Patty Murray

Patty Murray represents the state of Washington in the United States Senate. Senator Patty Murray is a member of the Democratic Party. She was initially selected to serve in the U.S. Senate during the 1992 Senate Elections. Senator Murray is the first female Senator to represent the state of Washington in the U.S. Senate. She is one of the highest ranking Democratic Senators currently serving in the U.S. Senate.

Throughout her life, Senator Patty Murray has fought for issues concerning education and the environment. Prior to serving in the U.S. Senate, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Shoreline School District in Washington and the Washington State Senate. Following four years of service on the Washington State Senate, Senator Patty Murray was elected to serve in the U.S. Senate.

Since her initial election, Senator Patty Murray has been continuously reelected to serve on the U.S. Senate. Currently, the Senator is a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, the Rules and Administration Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Appropriations Committee.

In addition, she serves as the Chairwoman of the Employment and Workplace Safety Subcommittee and the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Subcommittee. Senator Murray supports environmental conservation, a woman's right to choose abortion, LGBT rights, immigration reform, and investment in alternative energy. She opposed the invasion of Iraq and questioned the role of the United States following their victory, stating that the United States does not have the finances necessary to rebuild and maintain Iraq.
