Minnesota Senate Race Background

Prior to the 2008 Minnesota Senate race, Norm Coleman represented the state of Minnesota in the United States Senate. Al Franken, the Democrat who ran against Coleman, was a notable public figure. The MN Senate race was close throughout the duration of the campaign. Following the initial count of the votes, a Minnesota Senate recount was initiated.

Al Franken Senate Race

The AL Franken Senate race is one of the most notable Senate elections in the history of Minnesota. The 2008 Minnesota Senate election placed Democrat candidate Al Franken against Republican candidate Norm Coleman. This Senate election resulted in manual recounts, election contest, and Supreme Court appeals, notably delaying the official initiation of a Minnesota Senator.

Minnesota Senate Race Results

There was a great deal of controversy surrounding the 2008 Minnesota Senate race results. The initial race results favored the republican candidate, however, after the completion of a mandatory recount, the Democratic nominee was found to be victorious. This caused suspicion surrounding rejected absentee ballots and the correction of typing errors on the ballots, causing some Republican supporters to suspect fraud.
