A monthly report on the California unemployment rate, as well as a broad variety of other CA unemployment and employment information is compiled each month by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a division of the federal Department of Labor in the United States of America.

There are 30 different metropolitan areas that are specifically focused upon in a CA unemployment report. These areas are the metropolitan areas around:

· El Centro,

· Fresno,

· Hanford-Corcoran,

· Los Angeles- Long Beach- Glendale,

· Los Angeles- Long Beach- Santa Ana,

· Madera- Chowchilla,

· Merced,

· Modesto,

· Napa,

· Oakland- Fremont- Hayward,

· Oxnard- Thousand Oaks- Ventura,

· Redding,

· Riverside- San Bernardino- Ontario,

· Sacramento- Arden- Arcade- Roseville,

· Salinas,

· San Diego- Carlsbad- San Marcos,

· San Francisco- San Mateo- Redwood City,

· San Francisco- Oakland- Fremont,

· San Jose- Sunnyvale- Santa Clara,

· San Luis Obispo- Paso Robles,

· Santa Ana- Anaheim- Irvine,

· Santa Barbara- Santa Maria- Goleta,

· Santa Cruz- Watsonville,

· Santa Rosa- Petaluma,

· Stockton,

· Vallejo- Fairfield,

· Visalia- Porterville,

· and Yuba City.

In addition to focusing on these metropolitan areas, the California unemployment rate for the state as a whole is reported. These CA unemployment reports show that the California unemployment rate has remained stable over the six month period between March 2010 and August 2010, going from 12.6 percent to 12.4 percent. In March the number of unemployed in the state was 2,374,000 people in a civilian labor force of 18,245,000 people. In August, the CA unemployment level was at 2,261,000 people out of a work force of 18,229,000 individuals.
