Civil Service Jobs

Jobs and careers in the civil service will prove to not only be various, but they will differ in their overall field or area of concentration. However, any position as part of a governmental agency is usually to be a civil service job. Some common civil service jobs will include law enforcement, education, and firefighting.

Civil Service Pay Scale

The salaries for civil service positions will differ in accordance to the position or job and the state in which an individual lives. However, all salaries are based upon a pay scale which is known as the General Schedule Pay Scale. Most government employees are under the GS pay scale, though there are other pay scales such as the Executive Schedule and the Wage Grade Schedule.

Civil Service Pensions

Retirement plans in the civil service will either be covered by the Civil Service Retirement System or the Federal Employees Retirement System, which will depend on what year a person was hired to work for the government. Though both retirements will have some basic similarities, there are some significant differences between the two.
