Medicare part d background
Medicare Part D offers prescription drug coverage to those that are eligible for Part A and Part B, which is hospital and medical coverage offered through the traditional Medicare program. Medicare recipients may select a Medicare advantage plan which includes prescription drug coverage, while also covering other expenses, such as co-payments and deductibles for the traditional Medicare plan. In addition, individuals may select additional coverage, which simply covers prescription medications.
Medicare prescription drug coverage
Medicare prescription drug coverage may include a list of covered medications. There may in fact, be prescriptions which are not covered at all by the plan. There may also be medications which include a co-payment by the beneficiary, as well as those that are completely covered by the plan. Critics argue that this plan sometimes forces individuals to select the cheapest medication, even when it is not the best option for them.
